OUR PASTOR
Reverend Sherman L. Bailey came to the Chapel of Prayer Baptist Church in December 1984 and has been here for 31 years. He was called into the ministry in 1972 and has served the Lord for 43 years. Pastor was originally from DuBois, Pennsylvania, where he pastored the Community Bible Church in Rockton, just outside of DuBois. As our Pastor, he also teaches the Senior Saints Class at 10 am on Sunday mornings and leads the 7 p.m. Wednesday evening prayer and Bible study. Pastor Bailey is a Southern Gospel enthusiast and sings and plays the guitar and sings with the Chapel Quartet. Pastor Bailey has dedicated his life working for the Lord in many capacities.
For thirteen years Pastor Bailey was married to Marjorie Dunworth, who died in 1980. The had one son, Shayne. In 1985 Pastor Bailey married Pamela Smith. Pam earned a doctorate in history and is retired from an all-girls private school in Lititz, Pa. They have no children, but are avid cat lovers, especially Himalayans. The church adopted a stray cat several years ago that lives in the office. He was named CHAPS for the Chapel of Prayer.
Under Pastor's ministry many new programs were added over the years. We have an active missions program and support many missionaries around the world. He began our Sunday School program, ladies' and men's fellowship that meets each month and our Seniors have a noon luncheon each month. He also started a family outreach ministry that helps those in our church with emergency financial needs and meals when released from the hospital. This committee also oversees visitation to nursing home shut-ins. Under Pastor's guidance the sanctuary was remodeled, even through the 2020 quarantine.
